Our Story

Michelle started Shimmin Consulting in 2012 out of a desire to coach and train others in practice processes and influential communication techniques. We consult with practices on their systems to promote training, growth and success in all areas. Michelle is passionate about communication and setting others up to succeed, and with her electric personality, knowledge and experience, our clients have seen unbelievable growth when applying the information and techniques that she so enthusiastically teaches. Shimmin Consulting specializes in efficient, streamlined management processes and leadership techniques, case acceptance, and increased conversion rates and we were the WINNER of the first ever Golden Molar Award for Best Orthodontic Consultant in 2023.

Michelle Shimmin

Founder / Owner

Michelle is an international lecturer, trainer and consultant who has been in the field of Orthodontics for over 30 years, having worked as a Registered Dental Assistant in Orthodontics, administering and teaching orthodontic assisting at the Academy of Orthodontic Assisting, Inc., as well as teaching marketing, financials, treatment coordinating and practice management to practices around the world.

Previously, Michelle was an Office Manager and ‘super star’ Treatment Coordinator in Kirkland, Washington for an office that obtained Invisalign Elite status while only seeing patients 2.5 days per week! Since leading her practice to unprecedented growth, Michelle has quickly become one of North America and Canada’s most sought-after trainers.

Early on, Michelle wanted to be a psychologist. She studied psychology in college and quickly realized that her knowledge and experience in orthodontics, combined with her training in psychology, were valuable assets. Michelle has successfully married these two passions into a highly accomplished consulting firm.

I was drawn to dentistry at an early age.  While I originally dreamed of becoming an orthodontist, I obtained my degree in Communications and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I have had the pleasure of being in the orthodontic profession for close to 25 years.  This has given me the unique opportunity to work in all areas of the dental and orthodontic profession which has led me to become detail oriented and organized.  I am passionate about our industry! I recognize that the term “success” has different definitions to each individual. These differences and individuals uniqueness excites me to customize practice processes and influential communication to fit the needs and desires of the practice.
 
My husband, Adam, and I, along with our two children, live in Northwest Arkansas.  As natives to this area, we enjoy the outdoors of the Ozark Mountains.  You will often find us hiking or camping or anything outdoorsy!

My desire to have a career in Orthodontics started at a very young age. I have been through many phases and all types of treatment, including orthognathic surgery. I have always been fascinated and intrigued by the impact a beautiful smile can have on a person and wanted to be a part of that journey for others. I have been in the orthodontic field for over 20 years.
 
During my career, I have had the opportunity to truly experience every role in the practice. I have been honored to lecture with a large focus on clinical leadership, protocols, efficiencies, and ordering. My career in Orthodontics has taken me all over the world with Shimmin Consulting to share my passion and dedication to this amazing field with others! 
 
I was born and raised in the Seattle area and still live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband, Casey, and our two children Benson and Emerson. I love hosting large events for family and friends, which ties into my other passion, cooking!! On the weekends, you will find us camping, watching our kids play sports, watching football (GO HAWKS!),  at the race track, or chasing the sun.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from Columbia College Missouri with many years of experience in sales and management, which have supported the roles I’ve held during my tenure in Orthodontics. I’ve run the marketing for a large practice in the San Francisco Bay area, where I quickly moved into Treatment Coordinating and found my true passion! As I moved to Chicago, I was able to continue my career as a Treatment Coordinator and expand my knowledge and experience as the Practice Manager for a large, multi-doctor practice. My combined experience in sales and orthodontics gives me the tools to bring a unique blended approach to consulting. I specialize in bringing each person’s strengths to the surface as I partner with our clients for maximum growth and efficiency. I look forward to using my knowledge and passion to help your practice and your team!

I live in Lake Forest Illinois with my husband and two teenage children.  We also have a bulldog, Roxy!   In our free time, we enjoy traveling, especially cruises, participating in car shows and rallies, and spending time with family and friends.

I'm not just a pro at startups, treatment coordinating, customer service, marketing, team/culture building, leadership, development of policy and systems and managing multiple offices—I'm also an international lecturer in team building and marketing, spreading wisdom far and wide!

 

When I'm not conquering the orthodontic universe, you'll find me embracing my competitive spirit (always aiming for that top spot!), exploring the great outdoors, or whipping up culinary delights in the kitchen. I have been in the dental field for nearly two decades and have held every admin and clinical position in both general dentistry and orthodontics. I started out as a traveling clinical assistant, soon transitioning into clinical lead. My passion for growing in this industry led me then into a position of marketing director, administrative director, and communication director for a large and prominent orthodontic organization, overseeing multiple locations and over 50 team members. I have extensive knowledge and experience with customer service, team relations, marketing, leadership, communication and managing multiple offices. I specialize in bringing self control, self awareness, social awareness, and relationship management to doctors and teams. With this experience and knowledge I'm committed to maximizing each person's strength and to help them grow in every area of their life. I look forward to working with your team! 
 
I was born and raised in Texas. Summer weather fills my heart with joy and I would love it to be summer year round! I am blessed to say I am married to my high-school sweetheart and we have an amazing son and daughter!

My education and experience is in project management and leadership. I have an excessive background in managing large teams and multi-level projects. As Shimmin Consulting’s Administrator, I bring an extreme level of organization that helps to keep our team running smoothly.
 
I live in Edmonds, WA, with my husband, our three sons, and two dogs. We love everything football, from our youngest playing flag football to Friday Night Lights with our oldest. We are loyal Seahawks fans and rarely miss a game, unless of course, one of our children are playing. As a family, we enjoy taking new ‘adventures’ where we explore new destinations, usually involving a ferry ride. Outside of my family, my passion is cooking, baking, reading, and cake decorating.

I have been working in the orthodontic field since 2002, and after a break to have a family I am excited to part of Shimmin Consulting managing their social media and marketing. I love being able to create engaging and interactive content that consistently communicates to our followers, colleagues and clients Shimmin Consulting’s core values.
 
My husband and I live in Everett, WA with our 4 kids. We spend most of our weekends watching our kids play football, lacrosse and soccer. If we’re not at the field, we love enjoying the PNW together as a family, and spend much of our summer camping and boating.  Any extra time you will find me at the gym working out, out on a long run or reading a book.

Jennifer Drysdale

My education is in Mechanical and Aerospace Design, but after working in the field for a few years, I realized my passion for finances when I moved into banking and mortgages. I've now been working in finances for almost 20 years, and after spending some time with Shimmin Consulting in the Operations department, I'm thrilled to be part of their Financial Coordinating team! It allows to combine my experience in problem solving and numbers and my interest in organizing and efficient processes. And, as Michelle's twin sister, it's an easy and amazing fit professionally. I'm very grateful to be part of the growth and success of Shimmin Consulting.
 
I am a strong critical thinker, problem solver, and strategic planner. I'm also very competitive and outgoing and thrive on personal connection, which helps me to work well with different teams.
 
My husband, Derek, and I have been married for 25 years and have raised six amazing young men, and are now the VERY proud grandparents of one sweet little girl! We live in the mountains north of Spokane and enjoy anything we can do outdoors.
